Spain: Citrus exporter Zapata y Compañía forced to suspend payments

The Agricultural Society Agricultores del Sureste, Adesur, has forced Zapata y Compañía, a citrus exporter from El Raal, to announce a suspension of payments, as it had countless creditors and multimillion debts.

According to the latest data from the Mercantile Registry, Zapata y Compañía had registered a turnover in 2010 of 14.8 million Euro.

The company owned a 10,000 square metre warehouse in the municipality of El Raal, with six cooling chambers with a capacity for one million kilos. The firm had a processing capacity of 90 tonnes per day and managed to employ up to 90 people.

Several sources declared that Zapata was never willing to negotiate with its creditors and thus had to close its doors.
