As the year comes to an end the price of limes and tomatoes increased slightly. Limes increased from 10 pesos to 12 and up to 15 pesos (U.S. 0.77, 0.92, and 1.15 respectively). Meanwhile, tomatoes, which were being sold at 20 pesos at the end of November (U.S. 1.15), are currently being sold at 25 pesos (1.92 dollars).
The increase, which marketers say was bound to happen, was probably due - in the case of limes- to the re-establishment of a 20 percent tariff at the border by the Secretariat of Economy; a tariff that had been eliminated to lower the fruit's price in face of an emergency.
