Mexico unable to meet United States' citrus demands

Persian lime producers won't be able to meet the United States' demand of citrus because they failed to fertilize their orchards and be as prepared as they should have been. Hence, in the early months of 2014, they won't have enough supply due to the frosts that destroyed their gardens.

The President of the Persian Lime Product System, Cesar Cortes Bello, admitted this and said that there was going to be a high demand for livestock products due to the bad weather affecting their northern neighbour.

"There will definitely be a high demand and high prices for limes, avocado and other products. But Mexico will not have enough production because there isn't enough money to prepare the orchards."

He said that they wouldn't be able to export nearly 170,000 tonnes of Persian lime and that they would have serious losses that would affect their income because they didn't have a good production and hadn't prepared their orchards.
