Italy: Kiwi Uno part of the Kiwifruit of Italy Consortium

Almost 80,000 tons of produce (45,000 tons of apples, 20,000 of kiwis, 9,000 of peaches and nectarines) as well as the sale of other fruits like pears, grapes, plums, cherries, mangoes and pomegranates produced on 600 hectares in Italy and Chile. Three plants with a storing capacity of 60,000 tons equipped with state-of-the-art packaging technologies and more than 250 producers.

These is the impressive data of KIWI UNO S.p.A., a company located in Verzuolo (Piedmont) and one of the leading in the province exporting fresh fruit all over the world. Founded in 1982, it is now part of the Kiwifruit of Italy consortium, established in 2012 by some of the main actors in Romagna, Emilia and Veneto.

"The addition of this company, which was made official in Cesena during Macfrut 2013, strengthens our presence and will enable us to reach important objectives in Piedmont too, which is one of the main kiwi growing regions," explains Alessandro Fornari, chairman of the consortium.

"Among the priorities of the consortium, there is the improvement of the quality of kiwis and of their image by setting minimum common regulations for their production and sale. Another objective is the development of coordinated promotions and campaigns aimed at new markets and countries overseas."

"This is a project that works really well with our company philosophy, as we aim to strengthen Italian kiwis on the main markets and maximise returns for producers," affirms Gualtiero Rivoira (in the photo), CEO of Kiwi Uno S.p.A..

"This can be achieved by adopting high quality standards that can be measured and shared, something which the Kiwifruit of Italy consortium relies on."
