Designing the future of Australian vegetables
Under the industry’s Strategic Investment Plan, the Design Teams are charged with developing innovative projects in the areas of Consumer Alignment, Market and Value Chain Development, and Farm Productivity, Resource Use and Management.
“The key to the success of the Design Teams is that they are predominantly made up of vegetable growers, placing the future of the industry in the hands of those responsible for feeding Australia now and into the future,” said Mr Kurt Hermann, Design Team Coordinator, AUSVEG.
“These meetings are a continuation of a process designed to secure the future of the Australian vegetable industry through investment in innovation to ensure that Australian vegetable growers remain competitive in an increasingly competitive global market.”
“There are a number of challenges facing the industry and these teams of dedicated growers and industry leaders are working hard to ensure that Australian consumers continue to have access to safe, nutritious, locally grown produce,” said Mr Hermann.
The Australian vegetable industry is currently conducting exciting research in areas such as export market development, on-farm sustainability, and automation that will assist with growers’ overheads as well as potentially generating new income streams for Australian growers.
“Australian vegetable growers are the best in the world. It is their ideas and expertise that will ensure that Australia can continue to provide the best vegetables to Australian consumers and help realise the potential that exists beyond our shores.”
