Ukraine: Ministry updates vegetable harvest forecast for 2013

The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has forecasted that the vegetable harvest in 2013 will be 10.4 million tonnes, which is one million tonnes more compared to the previous assessment.

"As for the so-called borsch set (of potatoes, carrots, beetroots, onions and cabbage), it will be 10.4 million tonnes, while on average 7.4 million tonnes is consumed," Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said an interview with the Uriadovy Kurier newspaper.

He said that potato harvest in the country this year will be around 23 million tonnes, and the potato storage facilities can store one million tonnes.

As reported, referring the State Statistics Service, potato harvest in 2012 fell by 4.1% compared with 2011, to 23.25 million tonnes and the vegetable harvest was 1.8% up on 2011, at 10 million tonnes.
