Russia blocks entry of contaminated tomatoes

Rosselkhoznadzor (the Russian Federal service for veterinary and phytosanitary supervision) specialists, in the course of taking phytosanitary measures, identified the presence of harmful insects in a batch of tomatoes grown in Turkey.

“Despite the support of phytosanitary documents, certifying that the imported goods are found free from quarantine harmful objects, a dangerous pest – Western (Californian) flower thrips was discovered in batches of tomatoes weighing a total of 89 tons," - informed the press-service of Rosselkhoznadzor for the Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea.

The access of contaminated goods into the area has been banned to prevent the spread of thrips.
