"Stijn Weckx: "Fortunately sufficient supply of the Jazz apple"
Belgium: Pink Lady most popular apple just now
Van Dijk Foods in Belgium has a large offer of apples at present. "This is our core business right now. We pretty much have all types," said sales manager Stijn Weckx. The most popular apple at the moment is the Pink Lady, followed by the Jazz apple with Granny Smith taking third place. There is currently a shortage of the Pink Lady. It is difficult to keep up with demand. Fortunately there is enough supply of Jazz this season, in comparison with last year when the harvest was pretty much a loss and supplies were limited. All varieties are available. It is noticeable that the customers appreciate the quality of these apples. We receive the Granny Smith from Chile and will get them in from South Africa again soon.
Stone fruit Another current product is Spanish stone fruit. "It all started at the beginning of April with cherries from the greenhouses. It ran as usual until the end of April. Unfortunately there was a lot of rainfall in Spain after that which meant that a lot of the harvest was lost for the early varieties. Consequently we didn't have any supplies for a while but we will get the Spanish cherries in again this week."
