UK: Morissons braces itself for Sunshine
The retailer said it was expecting sales of strawberries to soar by 160%, cucumbers to rise by 16% and salad onions to rise by 46% compared to an average week.
The forecasted change in temperature comes just a fortnight after Morrisons saw sales of pies increase by 246% in the week leading up to Easter Sunday because of the cold weather.
Morrisons group trading director Martyn Jones said: “Customers have been waiting for a bit of Spring sunshine for weeks and now there’s some on the horizon we fully expect them to make the most of it.
“We’re predicting this will be the first barbecue weekend of the year for some of our customers and we’ll be making sure we’ve got plenty of stock of all the essentials.”
