Spain: Prices increase as season tails off

Last week's situation continues unchanged, with difficulties to harvest the fruit because of the rains, although citrus firms continue their commercialisation activities normally, as they kept their refrigerated stocks high.

Sales of Salustiana oranges are progressively entering their final stages, with prices increasing to 0.14-0.17 Euro/kg. Lanelate oranges stand at 0.13-0.17 Euro/kg, while the first sales of Valencia Late oranges are registering prices of 0.18-0.24
Euro/kg. Prices for the late varieties are expected to go on an upward trend due to the lack of stock in the East coast of Spain along with high demand.

Prices for processed Salustiana oranges reach 0.38-0.40
Euro/kg for the loose format, 0.40-0.42 Euro/kg for bags and 0.40-0.45 Euro/kg for boxes. Meanwhile, Lanelate oranges stay at 0.35-0.40
Euro/kg for the loose format, 0.37-0.42 Euro/kg for bags and prices slightly increase for boxes to 0.43-0.48 Euro/kg. Afourer mandarin prices remain stable, both for the processed and unprocessed product, with values of 0.65-0.75 Euro/kg for the freshly-picked fruit, 0.80-0.95 Euro/kg for the loose format, 0.90-1.00 Euro/kg for nets and 1.00-1.35 Euro/kg for the boxes.

According to information from sources in the sector, the commercialisation of lemons of the Fino variety is expected to finish during the first week of April, when the Verna variety will take over, and whose prices keep growing, reaching values during week 11 of 0.50-0.60 Euro/kg.

Prices of Fino lemons commercialised this week remain stable at 0.55-0.58 Euro/kg for the loose format, 0.58-0.60 Euro/kg for bags and 0.60-0.65 Euro/kg for boxes.
