Italy: XEDASOL L apple wax: gloss, crunchiness and juiciness for longer

XEDASOL L apple wax is among the various solutions offered by Retarder, a Piedmontese company supplying packaging and technological instruments to extend the shelf-life of fruit and vegetables and improve their conservation.

XEDASOL L, was created as a result of research on formulations in absence of amines, is a food additive made from natural shellac dissolved in ethyl alcohol. Once dry, it creates a protective film, semi-permeable to gases, that enhances the appearance of fruit while at the same time slows ripening processes. The presence of alcohol also protects fruit from bacteria.

"Another advantage of XEDASOL L is that it reduces water loss, so the fruit, which is 'sealed' by its external film, maintains its crunchiness and juiciness for far longer periods with respect to normal waxes, as well as giving it a lasting gloss," explains the company.

Aldo Rivoira is the exclusive dealer of XEDASOL L shellac patented by Cedax.

XEDASOL L is odourless and it's not sticky. It can be combined with fungicide and anti-heating post-harvest treatments.

The best results are obtained by applying the product with the BIOWAXER, a waxing machine specially developed for the application of alcohol-based waxes.
