20th & 21ST November 2013

Eighth UK Onion & Carrot Conference and Exhibition

Planning is well advanced for the forthcoming UK Onion & Carrot Conference to be held on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st November 2013 at the KingsGate Conference Centre, Peterborough.

This is a well-established meeting point, conference and trade show for all those involved in production or allied to these significant industries from home and abroad. An additional highlight is the dinner on Wednesday, 20th November, which will return to the Holiday Inn Peterborough West.

The programme follows a similar format to previous events; the onion day will have an opening address by the NFU President, Peter Kendall, followed by technical presentations including approaches to neck rot control in the United States from Lindsey Du Toit of the Washington State University. The production session will include an overview of Spanish production from Alfonso Tarazona and the retailing sector will be covered by the Tesco Category Director for Fresh Produce, Kris Comerford.

Topics for carrot growers include an update on pathogens with John Clarkson, enhancing soil fertility addressed by Jo Franklin and the economic impact of nematode pests with Bert Aasman of DLV Plant. An overview of Global carrot processing will be presented by Bert Haffmans of Sormac. Production in Denmark and developments in the UK marketplace will be included in topics for the afternoon.

Two informative days with time to visit an extensive trade show will be a must for all involved in these two fresh produce sectors.

This event is kindly being sponsored by Bayer CropScience and Elsoms Seeds/Bejo Zaden.
