Van Walderveen once started with a citrus test field in Morocco and in the meantime they now import a hefty volume of citrus fruits from Morocco to wholesalers. The first Maroc Valencia Late are currently on their way to the Netherlands and the first boat is expected on Monday. "We will continue to take the Valencia's until mid July," says Bas van Walderveen from Morocco.
Moreover, the harvest this year is going to be smaller than last year. "It was very warm during the flowering time and that resulted in a harvest 40% smaller," explains Bas. "Normally this should result in a smooth turnover, but Egypt has had a significant harvest. We do expect that sales in the domestic market will be at a better price level than last year."
The Valencia Lates are available via Van Walderveen under the brands Holmar and Faras. Van Walderveen has worked together with the shipper Copag for years.
