US: Simply Fresh Fruit awarded A grade food safety certification

Simply Fresh Fruit has announced that the company has exceeded food safety expectations under the Global Standard for Food Safety, receiving an “A” grade in a certification issued Feb. 8, 2013.

The BRC (British Retail Consortium) Certification, whose standards evolved into the global benchmark for best practices in the food industry, certifies that Simply Fresh Fruit uses safe processes for preparing and packaging its fresh-cut fruit products. Under the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 6, Simply Fresh Fruit is certified as a business that strives to eliminate risks for food contamination and maximize energy efficiency, all while providing a delicious and safe product.

“After investing in specialized training, updating our facility to include state-of-the-art and energy-efficient equipment, we are excited to receive this certification,” said Bill Sander, President of Simply Fresh Fruit. “This achievement represents another step in our continuing effort to improve and provide delicious, safe, fresh cut fruit for the foodservice and retail grocery industries.”

As a leader in food safety, Simply Fresh Fruit is the only California-based fresh fruit company to receive BRC certification, according to the BRC Certified Sites database.

According to the Global Food Safety Initiative, the certification process “provides a high degree of confidence that food safety management systems are adequately designed, implemented and maintained.”

With the added confidence of the BRC food safety certification, Simply Fresh Fruit will participate in a national and expanding market for fresh-cut fruit supply to foodservice professionals and retail grocers.
