US: Washington Apple Blossom royalty candidates tour Columbia Fruit Packers

The top ten Washington Apple Blossom royalty candidates (complete with their stylish rain boots) toured one of CMI’s warehouses, Columbia Fruit Packers as part of their apple industry education. As part of their tour, the candidates learned about Washington’s record-breaking apple crop this year and got a glimpse into the interworking of the growing and packing side of the apple business.

These bright young ladies shined with energy and gratefulness for the opportunity to see the inside of the fruit warehouse. In the attached photo, the royalty learn from Mike Wade, owner of Columbia Fruit Packers how the apple industry has changed over the years. As they walked through the warehouse they were able to see all of the engineering and science that has gone into making a state of the art facility that distributes fruit both nationally and around the globe.

The future of these royal candidates is set to be a busy one with more tours set, public appearances and the crowning of two princesses and one queen on February 9, 2013 to represent the Washington State apple industry for one year. The Washington State Apple Blossom Festival, located in Wenatchee, WA, is an 11-day festival that takes place during the last weekend in April and first weekend in May. The festival celebrates the arrival of spring and the beauty of the apple blossoms that surround the valleys of Eastern Washington. Apples are one of Washington State’s leading agricultural crops.

The candidates are from left to right: Lauren Williamson (Wenatchee High School), Maggie Chvilicek (W), Madi Still (W), Laurel Jones (W), Carli Robins (Eastmont High School), Emily Abbott(E), Cassidy Halle(E), Scarlet Graham (E), Maria Medina (W), Jenaesha Iwaasa (E)
