Spain (Almeria): Mabe Horticultural exports 95% of total production

The company sells 60 million kilos of vegetables abroad, mainly to EU countries.

Export or die is a motto set in the mind of many companies in the province of Almeria if they want to survive the lack of orders within the domestic market. An unavoidable challenge to which some are quickly adapting, as best they can, while others have years in the process.

Mabe Fruits and Vegetables is undoubtedly one of the stars of the latter company model, an agricultural society whose business model is based essentially on internationalization, according to the figures casts every year.

Chaired by Antonio Ruiz Torres, the company based in the industrial area of La Redonda El Ejido has an export ratio of 95%, a percentage that is very difficult to achieve for most of the companies in the horticultural sector in Almeria, to the point of exporting a total of 60 million kilos abroad.

The main destinations for their productions are the traditional EU markets, mainly Germany, England and the Netherlands although the French, the Italians and the Russians are their customers as well, these last two, with slightly low figures, but with a large potential, above all, avoiding the difficulties within the company for the distribution of any product in that country.

The remaining 5% is absorbed by the domestic market mainly through the purchase of watermelon and cantaloupe, explained Rafael Lopez, Mabe's manager, to Almería's Journal.
