Spain: Citrus production has fallen more than 20%

COAG stresses that in Ecuador, orange and tangerine quotes have plummeted, at 50% below production costs. Lemons are spared this trend and are trading higher. From the balance presented in the main producing areas arises the following data:

Compared to the previous year, total citrus production in the province of Granada has fallen 23.14%. In the case of sweet oranges there was a 21% fall, 23.2% for tangerines and 40% for lemons. Granada's early season orange prices are catastrophic, ranging between 0.09 and 0.10 € / kg. Prices aren't expected to go higher throughout the season because they are, primarily for the industry market and other important provinces engaged in production such as Huelva, where production has increased.

Furthermore, there is little demand from the processing industries, whose sales have fallen driven by the economic crisis and who still have substantial stock from previous campaigns.
