First new celeriac with foliage sold at ZON fruit & vegetables

Much earlier than expected by many, on 22 January, the very first celeriac with foliage of the new harvest was sold at ZON fruit & vegetables. That the first celeriac could be auctioned in January is unique, as told by ZON-member Luc Berden of Horticultural Company Berden, who have this early vegetable.

"Whilst it is freezing and snowing in the Netherlands in other places with spring sunshine fresh celeriac is already being harvested. Our tubers are beautifully white with a fresh bunch of green leaves."

The celeriac is grown by Berden themselves in Spain, processed and washed in his company in the Netherlands and then sold from Venlo by ZON fruit & vegetables.

Berden is specialised in celeriac, both with and without leaves. Both the new celeriac with leaves and the celeriac without leaves from storage are sold at the clock by ZON, but also via advance sale and personal contacts. The celeriac of Berden goes via ZON to retail, foodservices, wholesalers and processors.
