Germany: Opening Rewe Green Building: ecology and economy connected
On 4 December 2012 in Neckarsulm the first Rewe Green Building was opened in the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. This supermarket saves about 50% on energy compared to the normal supermarkets.
The Rewe Green Building gives the impression architecturally of the sustainability philosophy of Rewe and proves that ecology and economy can go together. It is a total concept of modern architecture, energy-efficient technology and sustainable production of energy. The supermarket distinguishes itself thanks to energy-efficient daylight architecture, the use of environment friendly and easily recycling building materials, cooling installations and air-conditioning by natural cooling means, a P.V. installation and the use of rain water for cleaning of the floors and flushing of toilets.
Rewe invested about 3 million Euro in the new Green Building. The already existing Rewe Green Building in Berlin served as an example for the supermarket in Neckarsulm.
