AU: Melbourne gets taste of Honey Gold mango

Mangoes from the Northern Territory's Katherine region were the toast of Melbourne's fine dining scene at an industry festival.

PiƱata Farming Australia was displaying the new Honey Gold mango variety, for which they own the breeding rights, at last month's Taste of Melbourne Festival, which showcases restaurants and produce from around the country.

The company's product co-ordinator Rebecca Scurr says the new variety was a hit with consumers.

"We were telling them these are Australia's best mangoes and the world's best mangoes, and people were agreeing with us," she said.

"They loved the taste, they loved the texture, and most of all they loved the fact they'd travelled 4,000 kilometres from Katherine. They were really impressed with that."
