Sjan van Gorsel: market improving

Netherlands: “Stiff competition French chicory on Italian market”

Chicory sales have been slow in the past few weeks, but according to Sjan van Gorsel of packing company Reijnpack in Sint-Philipsland, In Holland things are improving slightly. “The market was under pressure due to large supplies, but cold weather is once again boosting demands. I expect this rise to last.”

Right now chicory prices are between 50 and 70 cents. The all-in is sold between 1.05 and 1.15 Euro. Sjan states that Belgium, Germany and to a lesser degree Scandinavia are the largest buyers. “Export to Italy is compromised; there is some stiff competition there from French produce.”
