A Japanese delegation of 55 people will visit the Dutch horticulture this week. The visit is a sequel to a Dutch mission by horticulture experts who visited the area that was hit by a tsunami in 2011, in February this year.
The tsunami washed away a great deal of the agricultural land. The conclusion of the mission was that this area is very suitable for starting a modern, sustainable and large scale horticulture complex. The area is flat and has a good infrastructure.
The Japanese delegation consists of representatives of (local and regional) government, company life, research and farming (co-operations) from all over the country and will visit horticulture companies in the Westland, GreenQ Improvement Centre in Bleiswijk, Agriport A7 in the Wieringermeer and the experimental garden in Zwaagdijk, among others.
The Japanese will also visit the Horti Fair. A seminar is being organised there with Japanese and Dutch speakers about the possibilities for collaboration between Holland and Japan in the area of horticulture in general and in the area around Sendai in particular.
