Green Mushroom Farm BV builds greenhouse in Europe

Last year the sales of South Korean mushrooms in several large European retailers have gone up considerably. Green Mushroom Farm, in cooperation with retailers, is planning to accommodate demands by building a nursery somewhere in Europe.

Green Mushroom Farm is one of the largest import-export companies of fresh wild forest and cultivated mushrooms in the Benelux market. The company, situated in De Lier, Holland, is specialized in South Korean cultivated exotic mushrooms.

Sami Bahtiri, sales manager at Green Mushroom Farm, says consumers are very enthusiastic about the Asian delicacies: “Partly because they are a very healthy alternative to other foods, like beef. Also, the mushrooms are very suitable for a whole range of recipes. The success is so big that GreenCo (South Korea’s largest producer of exotic mushrooms), in partnership with Green Mushroom Farm, has decided to up capacity by building the first mushroom greenhouse in Europe.”

Green Mushroom Farm has found a good partner in MitroFresh, who specializes in selling the exotic mushrooms to retailers. “In Holland, the common white mushroom is still more popular than the more exotic ones from Asia,” says Sami Bahtir, “so we need some hard work to make this happen.”

The plant, the building of which will start this month, will dedicate itself to the cultivation of the popular Eryngii mushroom.
