Singapore: Man stabbed in durian row

A man has been stabbed in a Singapore marketplace in a row over durian fruit worth just $2.

The incident happened at a durian stall at Block 133, Jalan Bukit Merah on Saturday at 3.35pm.

The customer had wanted to taste the fruit before making his purchase, leading to a dispute between him and the stall holder. As a result the stall holder stabbed him twice, breaking his ribs in the process.

Witnesses say they heard an argument break out, followed by someone screaming "blood!"

The victim is said to have hailed a cab and got himself to hospital, where he spent the next couple of days. The stall holder was later arrested at the scene.
