Philippines: World record breaking jackfruit

San Carlos City is looking at a possible Guinness world record, for the largest jackfruit ever seen.

The fruit is 74 centimetres long, with a circumference of 136cm - and still growing.

It's grower, formed city councillor, Elpidio Fermin, says he has discussed a Guiness world record entry with the city mayor, Julier Resuello, saying "this might give pride to this agricultural city."

He said the mayor seemed receptive to the idea.

Fermin has been searching on the internet to see if he can track down the current title holder. Based on his research the largest on record to date is a Hawaiian specimen, 22 inches long and 121cm in circumference.

Fermin says that he has not used any fertiliser in the cultivation.

"You see this is nature-given. It existed very naturally without much effort," he said.
