Spain: Coagrisan packs 4 million crates

Coagrisan, the largest producer in the Canary Fortuna group, has made an export record of 4 million crates of tomatoes. Last year they could have reached this number, but the E.Coli crisis meant that 500,000 trays of tomato were destroyed.

Today cultivation at Coagrisan is about 20 kg of tomatoes per m2. In the 70's it was only 6 kg/m2. According to the CEO Jacinto Godoy, Coagrisan is almost the only Canary tomato exporter on the European market. The profitability is confirmed by therecord munber of crates.

Last week, there are 2,000 pallets of tomatoes from the Canary Islands sent to the United Kingdom and 700 of them were sent from Coagrisan. The secret, according to Godoy: "Do your job well and improve yourself every day and
deal seriously with your customers. Today we do not have enough tomatoes to meet the demand and we will go through until the first week of June with export. "

Obviously, the record was celebrated in the workplace. Cooperative Director Juan Jose Del Pino congratulated everyone who made the record
possible, including growers, by professionalism and perseverance which managed to break the record. The 4 millionth crate was presented by the youngest and oldest employee of the company. When calculated Coagrisan yielded some 144 million tomatoes.
