Argüello, along with Feijoo, spoke with the governor Alperovich on the tasks that will permit
the return of lemons to the United States.
"I think we have to address this with energy, with conviction and I am sure we will
achieve our goal," the official said after the meeting with Governor José Alperovich.
During his visit to the province, he also met with the leading lemon producers to internalize the problem linked to the barriers imposed by the U.S. for the entry of Argentinian citrus.
Argüello denied that the recent trade sanctions are an obstacle because "the issue of ICSID is very particular," and he explained that "it is a situation about the companies after the 2001 crisis and an arbitration process, therefore it does not affect the lemon income opportunities to the American market."
Arguello said that "I have discussed this with both President Cristina Kirchner as President Barack Obama, and they had a very interesting meeting in the framework of the G-20 in the city of Cannes, France in early November."
"At this meeting there was talk of a bilateral agenda, which is immense, and besides that all the issues related to good moments and less good moments," he said.
"I know that both presidents are convinced they have the best relationship between the two countries," he said.
The ambassador said that "the suspension of the General System of Preferences has an impact of 18 million dollars, over a total of 13,500 million dollars in a year of trading in Argentina and the States."
"We never had this current volume, so we're talking about a minor issue, but it is undoubtedly a fact that we will try to overcome it," he pointed out.
