Germany: Dutch strawberries best prices

The German strawberry market last week was clearly and to a small extent decided by Spain, as per the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung. Tubs of 250 grs. were not receiving much attention at the wholesaler in Frankfurt. Strawberries in packings of 500 grs. or 1 kg. were sold sufficientlyl. At the wholesaler in Munich the strawberries from tunnels were of inferior quality. Sometimes they even showed signs of rot. Italian strawberries were also available in the product range, which mainly came from the south of the country. These strawberries were especially appreciated for their good taste.

At the wholesaler in Hamburg the surplus of Moroccan imports had to be sold before the week-end for less than the market price. In the meantime in Cologne, Portuguese shipments were kept in stock, which could be sold relatively quickly, although they were noticeably more expensive than the Spanish strawberries. Only at the wholesaler in Berlin the supplies from Greece arrived as well; at a price of 1.20 Euro/500 grs. they were the cheapest in general. To buy the scarce Dutch strawberries would cost the consumer the most.
