Expansion will create extra capacity and jobs

US (NY): Sun Orchard Fruit expanding

A Newfane company that supplies apples to retail is going to be expanding its operations, thanks to an incentive provided by the Niagra County Industrial Development Agency.

The NCIDA board approved the incentive this week for Sun Orchard Fruit Co. The company is proposing to build a 24,000 square foot extension that will enable to handle an increase in demand from its retail customers. Currently the company supplies in the region of 500,000 cartons of apple per year.

"This is a company that’s going great guns," said Henry Sloma, Niagara County Industrial Development Agency chairman. "It is pretty rare that we get to deal with a pure agricultural-based business and help them out."

Sun Orchards representatives say the project will cost around $3.4 million and will add a dozen jobs to its current staff of 54 employees.
