Philippines: Coconut Authority and farmers sign agreement on hybrid coconut production

The Philippine Coconut Authority has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the establishment of a hybrid coconut seed production farm with the Tagpako Free Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (TFFMC), a project started in Northern Mindanao that will be replicated throughout the entire country.

The coconut authority will provide the funds for the purchase and delivery recommended good quality seeds at a ratio of 167 Tacunan green dwarf and 83 Tagnanan tall coconut seednuts or a total of 250 seednuts per hectare.

The authority will aslo provide technical assistance during nursery and farm establishment and maintenance, and will provide the technical training, especially on naturally directed pollination techniques, coconut by-products utilization, and sequential toddy/nut production.

The TFFMC as a farmer-stakeholder will provide an area for the nursery to be situated and will manage the care of the seedlings.
