India: Increased availability of cashew leads to optimism

Trading in the cashew market picked up last week, after a protracted period of quiet.

After a period of unwanted calm there appears to be movement in the cashew nut market. Information suggests a decline of 10 -20% in North American and European sales in 2011. This is largely the result of excessive prices owing to low production. This led to consumers switching their purchasing preferences towards alternative types of nut. Increased availability for 2012 will see prices and coming down and consumers are expected to rapidly return to their preferred nut.
