Fresh Express bringing 120 jobs with new Orlando HQ

Fresh Express, the salad division of Chiquita Brands International Inc., has brought 120 new jobs to Orange County with the opening of its new headquarters office in Windermere, Gov. Rick Scott announced April 12.

Fresh Express's administrative offices have moved from Charlotte, N.C., to 4757 The Grove Drive, Suite 260, in Windermere. News of the company's headquarters moving to Central Florida broke last July, even before some local economic development officials knew of the deal, as previously reported by Orlando Business Journal. The new Windermere office houses jobs for executive management, sales, marketing, operations, human resources, procurement and logistics.

Also last July, Chiquita announced it was moving its main U.S. headquarters from North Carolina to the Fort Lauderdale area. The company chose Dania Beach for its headquarters due to it being near the port where the company receives bananas for ripening and distribution, and with it, is bringing 90 new jobs to that area, Scott said. The company's relocation to Florida is bringing a total of 210 new jobs. Just 10 percent of the current employees moved from Charlotte.

In January 2015, the banana company was acquired by Cutrale-Safra, converted to a private company and underwent a major overhaul of its workforce. Ed Lonergan, the former CEO, was paid $16.2 million for change-in-control provisions that were triggered by the Cutrale-Safra buyout, OBJ's sister paper Charlotte Business Journal reports.
Collectively, Chiquita and Fresh Express have annual revenue of $3 billion.
