The first harvest of cherries from town of Saphane, known as the center of cherry production in Kutahya, Turkey, has started to be sold at the market for 3-4 USD per kg.
Annually 7 to 10,000 tons of cherries are grown in the town and the product is known for its quality and taste.
Grower Mehmet Ali Tire: “I have been growing cherries for years, our town’s economy is dependent on the cherry production. We are very hopeful of this year’s harvest. The price is around 3 – 4 USD per kg depending on the quality of the product. As it is the early harvest, the price levels are satisfying for us. Our other cherry varieties, such as the Napoleon variety, which will be harvested later, are also of premium quality.“
