Jazz apples

"NZ: "One of the best apple seasons on record"

The first New Zealand Jazz apples arrived in Europe this week and Rosstan Mazey, Global Marketing Manager, said it has been an outstanding growing season, "It looks likes being one of the best apple seasons on record. We had a hot, dry Summer which has given us good brix levels and good colour. There was also a low occurrence of pests. The only down side is slight reduction in size."

Enza expect the New Zealand Jazz apple crop to reach 2.3 million cartons, 2.1 million of which will be exported, this is slightly up on last year. Mazey said that volumes have been increasing steadily year on year.

The new season Jazz have been eagerly awaited in the European market as domestic supplies were all but finished. "The Jazz is popular in Europe because of its firm texture and sweet tangy taste, a cross between the Breaburn and and Gala, two great apples in their own right, it is unique."

The Jazz is also proving popular Asia where it has seen strong growth, in particular in Thailand.

Enza are continually investing in the Jazz brand, with road show campaigns in Europe and the ever popular Good Food Show in the UK. This season the slogan will be 'Taste the Crunch'.
