Asturias' yellow kiwi harvest season is nearing its end, with forecasts indicating it will exceed 300 tons. Demand for this variety has steadily grown in recent years, driven by its sweeter flavor and strong market acceptance.
Approximately 250 tons of the total come from the ten hectares farmed by Kiwis La Rodriga in the Pravia region. Its general manager, Rafa Olivo, highlighted that "this year's crop is very good in terms of quantity and quality."
The weather conditions over the past few months, with sunshine and high temperatures, have supported crop growth.
Despite requiring a higher investment in production, the yellow kiwi is more profitable than the traditional green kiwi, whose season is set to begin on November 10th.
In this second phase, it is estimated that about 4,000 tons of green kiwi will be harvested in Asturias, representing a 20% to 30% increase compared to last year.
