Peru to boost pomegranate, blueberry exports to Indonesia

Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra has expressed expectations that the Indonesia–Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) will be concluded soon, enabling Peru to supply commodities such as pomegranates and blueberries to Indonesia.

Zegarra conveyed this to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a working luncheon in the Oval Room of the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday. "Our presence is intended to strengthen our trade relations. We will soon sign the CEPA for our blueberries to enter the Indonesian market, along with pomegranates, which are currently in the process," she said. Zegarra also acknowledged the simplification of policy, reducing procedures for these exports.

President Boluarte arrived in Jakarta on August 10 for a state visit, following President Prabowo's invitation when they met at the 2024 APEC Summit in Lima. "Since then, we have been working hard, through our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to realize this visit. We will also celebrate our 50 years of friendship between Indonesia and Peru," she added.

Boluarte was welcomed to the Merdeka Palace with a cavalry cortege escorting her presidential vehicle. President Prabowo greeted Boluarte and her delegation before leading them into the Palace.

The Peruvian delegation included Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer Salcedo, Minister of Economy and Finance Raúl Pérez-Reyes Espejo, Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation Ángel Amnero Campo, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Úrsula Desilú León Chempén, Secretary General of the Presidential Office Enrique Vilchez, Peruvian Ambassador to Indonesia Luis Tsuboyama, and Director General for Asia and Oceania at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fernando Quiros Campos.

The Indonesian delegation included Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
