Trial on Sarawak pineapple export underway

300 Sarawak pineapples from the initial trial batch arrived in Singapore earlier this week.

Chew Chang Guan, chief executive officer of Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS), stated that samples were already being sent to regional merchants for in-market testing.

According to him, there is still a high demand for fresh produce in Singapore. This initial experimental shipment was made possible with help from the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and Harvest Prime Enterprises, who collaborated locally with farmers in Tanjung Manis.

"Direct flights between Singapore and Sarawak are essential for the growth of both trade and tourism."

According to a statement he released today, "having the new Air Asia direct route from Sibu to Singapore has enabled same day delivery direct from suppliers to our Singapore wholesaler."
