Once again, Peru positions itself as the British market's main avocado supplier

In 2021, the UK imported $20.866 billion worth of agricultural products. Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium stood out among the British market's agricultural suppliers, accounting for 31% of total imports.

Peru ranked as the twelfth-largest supplier. Peruvian exported 173,671 tons of fruits to the UK for 396 million dollars, reflecting a 7% increase in volume and a 14% increase in value compared to 2020, according to a report by Fresh Fruit.

Grapes, blueberries, and avocados were the most imported fruits last year. Peru was the British market's third most important supplier of grapes; a ranking that was led by South Africa. Peru shipped 24,561 tons of grapes (+26% over 2020) for 69 million dollars (+27%). The country's grape shipments to the UK accounted for 17% of the Peruvian agro-export basket directed towards that market. The Peruvian grape was traded for 2.81 dollars per kilogram (+1%).

Peru was the British market's second-largest blueberry supplier, after Spain, with 15,172 tons (+16%) for 78 million dollars (+6%) and a 20% share, thus becoming the most shipped Peruvian agricultural product to the United Kingdom. The average price was $5.13 per kilogram (-9%).

Finally, in 2021, Peru was, once again, the British market's main avocado supplier. Peru exported 38,302 tons (+7%) for 77 million dollars (+10%), which accounted for a 19% share of the entire Peruvian agro-export basket to this market. The price of Peruvian avocado amounted to $2.00 per kilogram (+3%).
