Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk have discussed the expansion of ties in the spheres of trade and energy. In a meeting on April 10, Overchuk and Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredow discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation and issues related to the implementation of agreements reached during the negotiations at the highest level.
The Russian deputy prime minister confirmed that Russia was "committed to developing a mutually beneficial dialogue with Turkmenistan in all areas". In early March, Russia lifted restrictions imposed on the import of tomatoes from Turkmenistan. The restrictions were imposed in March 2020 after the products failed to meet the phytosanitary requirements of Russia.
