On Tuesday, Panamanian president Laurentino Cortizo Cohen attended the inauguration of the new regional headquarters for Latin America of the AP Moller Maersk Group in Panama. Panama celebrates the decision of the company AP Moller Maersk to establish its regional headquarters in our country and reiterated that “they have in us the best ally for their logistics activities; a government that facilitates good investments,” said the president.
“Thanks to the advantages offered by the Panamanian logistics system, the operations of AP Moller Maersk in our country have expanded in recent years. It is currently the main customer of the Panama Canal and the largest user of our port system”, Cortizo Cohen stressed.
Robbert Jan Van Trooijen, president of the Maersk para América Latina, indicated that this company and Panama share a long history. “We are proud of our commitment to Panama as the largest client of the Canal, the railway, as well as the ports in the Pacific and in the Atlantic. Our company not only contributes to the movement of Panamanian products around the world, but also to the Panamanian economy, contributing more than one billion dollars a year.”
Maersk was one of the first to support the expansion of the Canal by sending post-Panamax ships to the Panamanian ports to demonstrate that they were already capable of operating in the region with this size.
