National Mango Board (NMB)

Mango consumption in the US increased in 2021

The National Mango Board (NMB) said mango consumption in the United States had experienced an interesting and constructive growth in 2021. According to Manuel Michel, the head of the NMB, "it was a very difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we have a very combative industry and a superfood that captivates consumers of all ages."

"There is no doubt that our organization's marketing, communication, social networking, and research efforts have contributed to the continued increase in consumption in the US market, and we feel very proud about it," he stated.

"Mango consumption stood at 1.65 kg per person in 2020. Meanwhile, per capita consumption in Mexico, a mango-producing country that has an available supply, stood at 13.6 kg per person per year. However, increasing the US consumption from 1.65 kg to Mexico's level is quite difficult. I think that mango consumption in the US can easily reach 3 or 4 kg per person per year. That can be achieved in the next few years. Doubling and exceeding 3 kg can be achieved in 10 years."
