Current price level is similar to last year

Price of Chinese ginger exports to Europe gradually comes down

The price of Chinese ginger exports to Europe recently showed a downward trend, but the shipping costs remain high. In addition, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic adds other costs to the price of international trade. The FOB price of ginger is still not cheap. The price level is more or less the same as last year. In general there is a clear improvement in the ginger export volume, compared to the last few months, but factory owners who purchase ginger for processing still remain careful. There are no buyers who purchase large volumes in preparation for peak sales.

"The largest obstacle for ginger export is shipping. There are several aspects to the problem of shipping, including high shipping cost, extended shipping periods, arbitrary delays in scheduling, and delays in arrival. In addition, the ginger harvests in Brazil and Peru were huge this year. The production volume of organic ginger in particular greatly expanded in comparison with previous years. This situation obviously has its impact on the competitive position of Chinese ginger in the international market." This is according to Jone Qiao of Anqiu Linfu Food Co., Ltd.

Jone Qiao continued: "Our ginger farm is located in Anqiu, Shandong, one of the major ginger production areas in China. The ginger we supply includes regular ginger and organic ginger. We have our own brand 'Linfu', but we also sell our ginger under client brands, such as 'OEM'. We export our ginger to mid- and high-end markets in Europe and the USA."
