The Verona-based company Nicofrutta, which markets pineapples across Europe under the Nicogold brand, has recently signed an agreement with the Asopropimopla producers' association in the Dominican Republic.
The moment the agreement was signed
"I had the pleasure to meet with the president of the Association of Pineapple Producers of the Dominican Republic Asopropimopla, which counts 160 producers and 1,000 hectares of crops, to sign an agreement for a commercial collaboration in the production of pineapples. More specifically, Nicofrutta is committed to providing technical assistance throughout the entire production process to Asopoprimopla members and to training Dominican producers in the cultivation of a pineapple that can fully embody all the sensory qualities, in compliance with a sustainable production method that involves the elimination of the use of chemical pesticides and fungicides, in favor of organic products," explained Nicolis.

"The sustainable production system we have developed is breaking the mould in the traditional production of pineapple. Our top priority is to recognize producers a fair remuneration for their product. By conforming to our protocols, we can produce a high-quality pineapple to be sold to large-scale retailers in Europe," added Nicolis.
A pineapple that ripens on the plant not only makes it possible to harvest a fruit with a high °Brix and color, but also and above all with a long shelf life, which allows it to be transported by ship. The landing ports are Rotterdam, for northern Europe, and Vado Ligure or Livorno in Italy.
"It is our intention to pursue environmentally friendly production. Our traditional product is basically zero residue, but we also have 200 hectares where no synthetic chemicals are used. The operators, who are trained in collaboration with our technicians, distribute beneficial fungi and bacteria with drones. As an example, if 3000 liters of water per hectare are needed with the traditional spraying system, only 16 liters of water are used with an antagonist system,” concluded the owner.
