Turkey to stop lemon exports

The Western Mediterranean Exporters' Association (BAIB) informed its members in an announcement that lemon exports will be regulated under the "Communique on the products that are banned from exports or subject to permission". The decision taken by the association will be in effect until August 2020.

The association's written announcement published on Friday, March 27 stated:

"In line with the information received from authorities, due to COVID-19, our yields in 2019 are low and that the exports of lemons would be subject to the "Communique on the products that are banned from exports or subject to permission". During this time, the necessary steps will be taken in order to prepare health certificates for exports."

The association's chairman Hakki Bahar said: "Some of our members have packages that wait to be exported. Therefore, for our country's reputation, it is important to allow exporters 4 to 5 days in order to complete these orders. We expect our state's support and we believe that we will overcome these difficult days together."
