The production of the Amalfi Coast Lemon sees a 30% reduction

The production of the Amalfi Coast Lemon registered a 30% reduction due to the climate change together with the latest wave of bad weather recorded in December. The data were released by Coldiretti Salerno through a video in which the president of the Consorzio Limone Costa d'Amalfi mentioned a 30% reduction regarding the production of lemons.

For this reason, Coldiretti Salerno asked to set up a crisis unit to deal in a timely manner and take immediate measures to support the activity of the lemon producers of the Amalfi Coast who have experienced extreme stress from the bad weather conditions before Christmas.

Between 21 and 22 December the bad weather damaged the buildings, destroyed the dry-stone walls and devastated the lemon groves. Some companies suffered losses amounting to 300 thousand euro, and this has led to a joint meeting between the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Tourism, prompted by the president of the Amalfi Coast Lemon Consortium.

"We are facing the tragic effects of climate change that this year occurred with the multiplication of extreme events - explained the director of Coldiretti Salerno Enzo Tropiano - We are working with the Consorzio di Tutela del Limone IGP to monitor the situation and to identify concrete and rapid solutions".
