Packaging alternatives: Convenience and sustainability can no longer be ignored

In the field of packaging, there’s a growing demand for asparagus to be distinctive as a To Go product. As a result, people are trying to serve this relatively new market segment with fitting concepts. The company Solidus Solutions recently launched the so-called Spargel Portion Pack, a cardboard packaging for single and two-person households. With this, sustainability meets the increasing demand for small packaging units, explains spokesperson Oliver Wendt.

Besides being an alternative to plastic, this new packaging can also be printed, so that the product characteristics of the asparagus can be put into the limelight even better. The sturdiness of the packaging has been paid attention to as well, which simplifies not just transport, but also storage, according to Wendt. “We wanted to offer a packaging that both protects the asparagus and upgrades it.”

Modern, smaller packaging should boost the consumption of asparagus in the near future. Wendt: “We believe this allows us to contribute to a better positioning of asparagus, and we’re convinced the sales of this high-quality vegetable will get back on level both in Germany and throughout Europe. There just has to be a change on a European level so that customers can simply no longer ignore asparagus,” Wendt concludes.
