The general sowing of early leguminous crops is nearly finished, said Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Anatoly Khotko on 17 April, during the 5th export forum ‘Dairy Belarus’. According to the Minister, the sowing and planting campaign proceeds on schedule and at the appropriate time the technology requires.
Early spring crops have been sown on 95% of the target area. Brest Oblast, Gomel Oblast, and Mogilev Oblast have already finished sowing these crops. As of 17 April, progress in sowing early spring crops is at 94.1% in Grodno Oblast, 95.4% in Minsk Oblast, and 81.7% in Vitebsk Oblast.
“On the whole, spring crops have been sown and planted on more than 45% of the target area,” the Minister said. Belarusian farmers have planted potatoes on 1,600ha, with vegetables planted on 1,590ha.
BelTA reported earlier that in 2019 spring crops are expected to occupy a total of 2.4 million ha, including over 1 million ha under spring bread crops and leguminous crops (878,900ha under early spring crops).
