Mexican avocado producers will continue to bet on the Japanese market, where their fruit already represents more than 85 percent of the import quota. President of the Association of Producers and Packers Exporters of Avocado (APEAM), Gabriel Villasetior: "In Asia, thanks to the joint work of producers and packers, the consumption of Michoacan avocados grows year after year."
Villasetior said this after presenting a new television commercial that is aimed at that country. In a meeting at the facilities of the Embassy of Mexico in Japan. the businessman referred to the success of the so-called "green gold" in the Asian nation and in the world.
Mexico covers between 60 and 65 percent of the world consumption of the fruit and only in Canada did the export volume increase by 22 percent at the end of 2018, going from 60,877 tons to 74,358 tons. In China. it rose to 108 percent. from 6.298 tons to 13.75 tons, and in Japan it grew 15 percent. from 46,200 tons to 53,100 tons.
That is why according to notimex.gob.mx promotional activities in Japan will be reinforced with each new season, said the leader of the growers of Michoacan, the main producing state of Mexico.
