Frambofruit will stop, no successor found
"Raspberry season is going well"
"The cold weather means there is less supply of raspberries. This is beneficial for the raspberry market", says Chris Loncke of the Belgian Frambofruit. "Within 14 days, there will, however, be supply from the non-heated greenhouses. It is, therefore, difficult to predict what to expect this season. Prices can change quickly if the supply increases. At the moment, however, supply and demand are well-matched."
Current prices vary between €1,80 and €2 for 125 grammes of raspberries. "Prices are good but not excessive", says Loncke. The soft fruit market has grown rapidly over the last ten years. It is still growing. "Home sales, in particular, have increased enormously in recent years. Raspberries, but also berries in general, are becoming increasingly popular. Raspberries and blueberries are by far the most-loved. These are followed by blackberries, red currants and gooseberries."
Last season
Frambofruit has been dealing in raspberries for 21 years now. However, after this season, Chris Loncke is stopping. "Unfortunately, we have not found a successor for the business. It is a real pity. We had a lot of people come and have a look. None of them were able to take it over. It is important that the person must be hardworking. They must also have a head for business. We have not been able to find such a person. It is a real shame that things have turned out this way, but so be it", concludes Chris.
