China: Chilean cherries and blueberries arrive in Wuhan

On December 12, the first Boeing 747 with 105 tons of cherries and blueberries on board landed at Tianhe Airport. This was the first time that Wuhan Tianhe International Airport has welcomed an international fruit cargo. The flight was provided by the Alex Logistics International (CN) Ltd.

Gong Guoxiang, Director of the Phytosanitary Department of Hubei Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, said that the imported fruits intended for the Hubei market were mainly transported from Shanghai and other places. The transportation time was extended by 1 to 3 days, which affected the freshness of imported fruits. From now on, fresh fruits from Chile and America will arrive straight to Wuhan in 1-3 days.

Direct flights to Wuhan will decrease transportation costs. At this moment, one kilogram of the best Chilean cherries costs about 130 yuan, which is 35% cheaper than the same time last year. Fang Hong, Vice General Manager of Shanghai Donghang Logistics Company, said that Chinese customers can now buy berries that are even more fresh than Chilean and American customers can enjoy. The berries will be packed and sent to China right from the trees. The transportation by air will take just 28 hours.
